Frequently Asked Questions
Fees and Sliding Scale
We are committed to making therapy affordable to people regardless of circumstances; each of our staff members carries a minimum of 10% low fee (sliding scale) or pro bono clients. Our sliding scale fees range from $140-$260 for individuals and $210-$390 for couples, per session, depending on the clinician and based on household income. We offer reduced fees with our supervised in-training staff. Group sessions start $70 per person, per session.
Our fees are reviewed annually and an increase of $10 per year applies to our rates every January 1st.
Fees vary by therapist according to experience and qualifications.
Insurance Information
The Imago Center provides an insurance-ready “superbill” upon request. Clients submit to their insurance for reimbursement based on their plan. We are out of network for health plans. However, many of our clients submit claims to their out-of-network health insurance and receive reimbursement.
Therapy Notes Instructions
New clients provide an email and DOB for each person coming to therapy and will then receive an invitation to the “therapyportal”. There is a 24-hour window to respond to the invitation. Clients create a patient profile and fill out the provided paperwork within the HIPAA secure web platform. Clients can access their profile from the Patient Portal button on our website and can make appointment requests with their therapist using the patient portal or therapists Calendly app. Clients can enroll in appointment reminders through the patient portal.
We take security very seriously and invest in the strongest measures we can to protect our clients’ PPI.
Length of Sessions
Individual sessions are 50 min. Sessions for Couples are 50-80 min. Intensive sessions are arranged 1:1 with your therapist.
How Often Should We Meet?
Most clients benefit from 12 sessions of therapy as an initial plan. Once the therapist gets to know the situation, timelines can be adjusted.
Telehealth vs In-Person
ICDC uses a HIPAA secure Zoom platform with clients. Clients will receive a unique link that will be for their use alone. Clients can arrive at the Zoom room with 2 chairs that can be turned to face each other and still be seen together in their camera. In-person sessions occur in the therapists’ designated office. See the therapist profiles for office location(s).
Initial Good Faith Estimate for Health Services
Regarding the Public Health Service Act Section 2799B-6, aka the “No Surprises Act” we are directed to provide you with this good faith estimate of what you will have to pay for psychotherapy services we provide.
Please note the following:
This is an estimate solely for payments you make directly to the Imago Center of DC because
- you do not have applicable health insurance
- you choose not to seek reimbursement for ICDC services from your health insurance provider.
ICDC has no affiliation with any insurance companies and cannot be held responsible for whatever reimbursement policies they may have or whatever payments you may receive from them.
We are required to provide a diagnosis on this form. However, because we have not met, we cannot ethically provide a diagnosis.
For that reason, the diagnosis on this form is: Z03.89, No Diagnosis or Condition. Should you choose to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, your ICDC therapist will have to provide a “treatable” diagnosis. We will always seek the most benign diagnosis we feel is appropriate to your case. Should you choose not to seek reimbursement, your “diagnosis” will remain Z03.89
The “No Surprises Act” requires that medical practitioners provide an estimate of total cost of treatment. However, because of the nature of psychotherapy, there is no way for ICDC to provide a scientifically legitimate estimate of your total costs of treatment. Some clients may come for 6 sessions, others may come for 30 sessions, or more. In our view it would be misleading, and unethical, for me to guess what your total cost of treatment will be.
